I hate going into Urban Outfitters stores because as soon as i walk in i immediately feel like I'm not cool enough to shop there.I don't have a hipster flag to wave and prefer to not spend a gajillion dollars on clothes that will make me look like Pat Benatar in the 80's.I often go in,pretend to look at something for 5 minutes and when the coast is clear head straight to the sale section.
Normally the sale rack is a huge mess and anything worth buying has already been snagged up(probably by someone cooler than me).So rather than torturing myself and feeling sort of out of place I've resorted to shopping on their website.
While i was updating my wish list today and getting a few things on sale(YES!) i noticed something sort of funny. Sometimes I buy things based on reviews only and i was trying to find an awesome new book to read.I selected the most reviewed option and found out that maybe 10 of the 60+ books only had a single review. The other thing...almost every book is a picture/coffee table book.
I remember a while back they used to have these framed posters of book covers you could buy.Which leads me to believe that hipsters don't actually read...but they'd like you to think they do buy hanging this in their studio apt in Brooklyn
AH AHAH H AH AH!!! you are killing me!!! i have the same problem going in to most stores. pretending i can buy from any rack, but it is all a short ruse to give me a disguise on my way to CLEARANCE LAND.
ReplyDeleteand that damn store is filled with young hipster dufuses. i like to shop on line better than going in such places. OY>
oh yeah online(sale shopping, lol) forever.especially at all those hipster trap stores that unfortunatly also occasionally sell great things.I had a HORRIBLE experience at American Apparel which made me completly boycott them for good.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's mostly mental. I learned that the hard way, but I used to feel the same way (as I had told you plenty of times before) I always felt like I was being watched, and judged by what I bought (which is mostly true) but guess what? It's none of their fucking business! Now I just walk in with my 5 dollar stunna shades, and give everyone the stink face. I ignore their half assed, forced greetings, and walk right past them like they're the poor ones (which in face, they probably are - I doubt UO pays enough for them to even be able to afford anything BUT clearance stuff). I really don't even look at anyone anymore. I don't even fake looking at other stuff, and I go straight to the clearance. If I don't see anything, I walk right back out. It's funny, I've noticed how some girls at the checkout in UO are very judgemental and kind of give me a bit of a "cheap bastard" look when my total doesn't go higher than 40 dollars, but I've had others admit to being jealous at me for finding such good deals for so little. It's all bullshit. In the end, I love what I buy, no matter how much or little I spend on it.
ReplyDeleteGoing into reding. You know most of them just go read the amazon reviews, and then pretend to read (and pretend to forget/act indifferent towards certain books) just so we don't consider them uneducated or less of an intellectual. When in fact, they're only fooling themselves into being smart. Instead of spending time pretending to know what a book is about, they should just lay off the computer and read the damn thing! (myself included)
Love this one... Starred on my google reader, kthx!
